Livery Yard Management Course - one element of the Equine Livery Yard Management Diploma programme.     "I found the support I got an excellent resource.  The suggested consultation element was very useful i.e. to listen to other owners experiences and developmental ideas.  I also found the section on Law and different types of Livery and ownership useful.

The most challenging element for me personally was keeping the work consistent due to a full time job and 2 young horses to care for.  Although having the flexibility to complete in my own time made it possible to juggle it all.  Thank you.

Intermediate Diploma (Level 1 course/element) "This course is a great building block towards my Stage 2 BHS exam.  The information provided is excellent"

Helen   Old Coulsdon. Helen had already achieved the professional exam, BHS Stage 1,  and is working towards Stage 2.

Jenny Barthwaite Notts. Jenny is a long term owner and aims to set up her own Livery Yard soon.

“Without formal qualifications I decided that I would benefit from achieving something which would identify to my livery clients that I had gained a thorough grounding in the theory of horse care. I aim to adapt my research and own work on this course to train my staff and perhaps offer NVQ & eventually Stages training too”

Jane Scott, Doncaster, S.Yorkshire.

“ I am very pleased with the content of the Level 1 course and find it very useful and full of detailed information even though I had already taken the BHS Horse Owner’s Certificates Level 1 at evening classes”

Katie Paris, South Africa:

“The combined Intermediate Diploma programme is ideal. I have worked with horses for over 30 years but needed to brush up and get more up to date. Fast tracking Level 1 suited me admirably”

Wow!  this course is fabulous.  I have never seen such an abundance of supportive and helpful information in one place.  I think it's a must for all new horse owners and wil help many a horse and owner to reach their potential with confidence.  I will recommend this course to anyone I know who is considering owning a horse.

From Sarah Lillie on completion of the Lingfield Level 1 equine care & management course

I really enjoyed the course. I used it alongside the BHS Stage 1 sylabus to Study for my Stage 1 exam. I believe anyone considering the Stages or buying / loaning a horse should do a course like this one.

Dear All

Before I had contact with horses, I couldn't talk to people or go out of the house. I'm very grateful at how the horses help my health and disabilities. they make me laugh and feel alive. The horses are the light in my life.

Thanks to my care worker I found Arrow Riding Centre in Dartford where everyone is very helpful and caring. AND, I love the horses ! I am having riding lessons and it's a new world for me. A happy one ! I am really enjoying working on the Lingfield Level 1 course as well. The work with horses is magic Thank you.

Guide on "How to Get Qualified"

This little book is just great.    It answered so many questions !    I have been struggling to find out about all the different qualifications for my daughter. I had spoken to an instructor friend, rung a couple of colleges and the BHS but none of them gave me nearly as much information as I found it that book.   Why has it taken so long for someone to do this?

Jo Hillsmead.   Jo said she now knows what she wants to do and how to do it.

Level 1

Can I take this opportunity to let you know how much I am enjoying the course.   The knowledge I am gaining is invaluable. I work on a private showing yard and the ponies qualify for Horse of the Year Show regularly yet I still find things in my course work that when I talk to my boss about she is really interested to know.  Today she even threw away her wound powder after a discussion about my latest study pack.

Thank you for a brilliant courses.

Equine Psychology & Behaviour course  -  From a very keen but novice rider from Leicestershire.

I only discovered horses 9 months ago but am well and truly hooked. Although not a horse owner, on the practical side I am now looking after a horse 3 days a week as well as having riding lessons every week.   I was utterly amazed and fascinated to read in the course about their behaviour and then to actually see the exact same behaviour in the flesh.

I now have a much better understanding of horses.  If they "misbehave" it is not necessarily because they are nervy, highly strung animals as I had been led to believe.  It could well be their past management or even current management. With my new understanding, time and patience, I can hopefully, eventually learn what is wrong or upsetting the horse.  I do need to know more about the management as it is this which causes so many problems.  I was encouraged to enrol on the Level 1 course as well and now realise that I should indeed have done as suggested by the Lingfield people - I have enrolled this week.

The course notes provided detailed and interesting reading and are understandable even though I am not yet a horse owner. I need that extra care & management knowledge to help correct or improve the behaviour.  I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and am very keen to learn more theory.    Thank you so much.

Loved the course. It has given me some valuable insight, especially into the finance aspect. Thanks

I have to say, between two jobs and a horse I find this course so relaxing. It's very well written and easy to understand - and English is not even my native language.

Colleen Smith in Scotland. Colleen has been a horse owner for some years:

I have just finished Study Pack 1, Level 1, and I wanted to let you know that I have enjoyed it a lot. At first I thought that I might get a bit bored with it, but soon discovered, that I didn=t actually remember (or even know?) all of the information in the pack? I know what other students mean about the course making people read more books? I have pulled all of mine down from the shelf and been searching through them for the first time in ages?

Marie - Scotland

I am enjoying this course a lot and it is only my first Study Pack.  I am also reading books about all the apsects of the first Pack.  It is really good to do this course because I work full time and have a horse on share so I like learning in my own time.   The livery stables where the horse is kept have offered to help me with the practical session suggestions given in the course.  I also have contacted the Riding for the Disabled group near me to do some instructor training which I am looking forward to.

This course has opened up new doors for meand I hope to proceed to work with horses as a paid job.

Later, Marie's course tutor heard from her again:

Dear Paula, I am really getting on fine with the course. The horse we recently bought wasn't in great shape, but now she is coming along in leaps and bounds. Our other horse is doing great as well, but she gets stressed at times, so I eagerly read the psychology section of the course and it helped me understand the way she was acting. It has helped a great deal. Thank you.

Level 1

Excellent course in good laid out format.  Intersting research projects especially the worming one. The course really highlights how so many people get confused with so much available on the feeding front now, it shows we have to be careful and do our research properly.  It encourages you to read other material which broadens your learning and opinions.  The Set work is good and challenging.

There's no soft soap here; the course work really was useful in starting my thinking off about what was going wrong, and why. One of the things a lot of "horsey" people don't realise is that it's really scarey when you buy a horse for the first time, and you don't have a network of people you trust to ask for advice. There are usually plenty of people ready to give you their opinion, but that's not the same thing at all!

When things start to go wrong, it's easy to think it's all going to hell in a handcart, and I really did find the course extremely useful.   Then the email support you and Hannah offered made the next big difference - up to then we had thought we might have to sell the horse, which was so upsetting.

Level 1

All info invaluable !  Course notes throrough, well organised.  Research a little trickey at times.  Questions challenging but good.  A very enjoyable course.  Many thanks.

Livery Yard Management course

This course was very informative and interesting, I found the setting up a business from scratch information very useful as well as the money matters.  Small things were included that you would not necessarily think about and many could be crictical to the success of the business.  I thoroughly enjoyed this course and have benefited from it.

From Angela in Chelmsford who isn't a horse owener but is able to visit a friend's stable to practise things.

"Enjoying the course, learning new things every time I'm doing it.  Looking forward to completing it and moving on to Level 2. "

Equine Psychology & Behaviour

I have really enjoyed this course.  The content was easy to understand - and good depth.  I also like the format - wide spreard larger font helped my eyes (and brain) deal with the subject.

Thank you for compiling the coourse for us.

Equine Psychology & Behaviour Course

I found the course very informative and useful.  I was not previously aware of the concept of 'positive' and 'negative'  reinforcement.  I has made me realise that I need to reward my horse by removing the negative reinforcement (e.g. loosening the reins once he has halted).    He has really only been back in work for a week after 12 months rest and is already responding more positively and quickly to my aids than he ever did before!

I have spent more time just watching our ponies in the field and it has been really interesting - I have learned a lot about them !

Overall the course was easy to read and well laid out and has inspired me to learn more.  Thank you.
