Feeding Code of Conduct

BETA have introduced a code of practice – albeit a voluntary one – for feed manufacturers.

The new code has been introduced to reduce risk of Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances in feed. The code was implemented on 1 October 2009. A number of manufacturers are commited to the code including the following: Baileys, Blue Chip, British Horse Feeds, Dodson & Horrell, Natural Animal Feeds, Red Mills, Saracen, Spillers, TopSpec and Dengie (subject to FEMAS approval).

It is called The Universal Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS),Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances (NOPS) Code. It was developed by BETA in conjunction with assurance scheme experts as a result of the increasing amount of incidence where positive dope tests have been prevalent showing morphine, in racehorses.
